Additional terms & conditions

The General Terms & Conditions of Delivery of NL Actief apply to USC. In addition to this, the following provisions apply:

1. Member categories and proof for discount

  • USC has different fees for different categories of members. To be eligible for category 1 or 2, a member must have a proof for discount on the date of purchase of the (course) membership.
  • In order to proof that students and/or employees of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) or Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) are enrolled/working at one of those institutes – and therefore eligible for discount at USC –, they log on to My USC with SURF. See chapter 2 for more information about logging on at USC with SURF.
  • For all other proofs for discount, e.g. for alumni, the following applies: a proof for discount may be presented at any time via e-mail to our member services (usc@uscsport.nl) or during the next visit at a USC front desk.
  • Chapter 3 sets out, for each type of membership, the conditions for presenting a proof for discount.

2. Logging on with SURF

  • In order to proof that students and/or employees of UvA (including Amsterdam University College) or AUAS are enrolled/working at one of those institutes – and therefore eligible for discount at USC –, they log on to My USC with SURF.
  • Logging on to My USC with SURF counts as showing a proof for discount.
  • USC receives the following details from SURF: full name, e-mail address, affiliation with the institute (student or employee), status of the affiliation.
  • When a member objects to logging on with SURF, they can log on the regular way with username and password. However, this means that the right to a category discount lapses, because paper proofs of enrolment and employment contracts of UvA and AUAS are no longer accepted as proof for discount.

3. Memberships and courses

USC offers various types of memberships and courses. These are explained below along with their corresponding specific conditions.

3.1 Ongoing annual membership

  • A pro rata amount must be paid when purchasing an ongoing annual membership. This is the amount payable for the number of days till the last day of the month of purchase. Subsequently, the monthly fee is charged via direct debit in the first week of each month for 11 consecutive months.
  • After purchase, the monthly fee of an ongoing annual membership will remain equal to the starting fee during the first 11 terms of the membership – except for gift card codes applied to the membership for limited terms or price changes as referred to in Article 7 of the General Terms and Conditions of Delivery of NL Actief.
  • To be eligible for category 1 or 2, the member must be able to present a proof for discount after purchasing an ongoing annual membership. If the proof for discount has not been presented by the last day of the month following the month of purchase, an amount corresponding to the category 3 fee will automatically be collected for the subsequent collection terms. Members will be reminded via e-mail to present the proof for discount.
  • After 11 months, calculated from the starting date of the membership, the ongoing annual membership may be cancelled on a monthly basis. The membership can easily be cancelled using the cancel button on the My USC site or by sending an e-mail to our member services: usc@uscsport.nl. The date of receipt of the notice of cancellation is decisive. Once the membership is cancelled, it will end on the last day of the month of cancellation.
  • As long as they do not cancel their ongoing annual membership and the proof for discount is presented on time, members retain the rate associated with an ongoing annual membership, even after the first 11 collection terms have expired. This excludes gift card codes applied to the membership for limited terms or price changes as referred to in Article 7 of the General Terms and Conditions of Delivery of NL Actief.
  • Every year in September, members show a proof for discount, regardless of the month of purchase of an ongoing annual membership. Members will be reminded to show their proof for discount by e-mail in September. When in September it appears that a member is no longer eligible for the fee belonging to the current category, the category will be adjusted immediately. This does not alter the fact that members always retain the fee belonging to the category at the time of purchase of the ongoing annual membership during the first 11 collection terms. From the 12th collection term onwards, the amount belonging to the new category is then automatically collected. Members will be informed by e-mail in the month prior to the change in their membership fee.
  • It is possible to extend the ongoing annual membership by one year at any time during the membership period. This can be done per request to usc@uscsport.nl, and is beneficial if you still want to make use of a category discount for at least 11 collection terms, but will soon no longer be a student, for example. After extending the membership by another year, the other provisions under 3.1 apply again.

3.2 Ongoing flex membership

  • A pro rata amount must be paid when purchasing an ongoing flex membership. This is the amount payable for the number of days till the last day of the month of purchase. Subsequently, the membership is always extended by one month. In the first week of each month, the monthly fee is charged via direct debit.
  • The ongoing flex membership may be cancelled at any time. The membership can easily be cancelled using the cancel button on the My USC site or by sending an e-mail to our member services: usc@uscsport.nl. The date of receipt of the notice of cancellation is decisive. Once the membership is cancelled, it will end on the last day of the month of cancellation, unless cancelation occurs in the same month as the purchase of the flex membership. In that case, the membership will end on the last day of the next month. This means that at least one monthly amount will always be debited via direct debit before a flex membership expires.
  • To be eligible for category 1 or 2, the member must be able to present a proof for discount after purchasing a flex membership. If the proof for discount has not been presented by the last day of the month following the month of purchase, an amount corresponding to the category 3 fee will automatically be collected for the subsequent collection terms. Members will be reminded via e-mail to present the proof for discount.
  • To remain eligible for category 1 or 2, the member must be able to proof each year in September that they still qualify for the fee corresponding to the relevant category. If this is not done, an amount corresponding to the category 3 fee will automatically be collected from October onwards. In September, members will be reminded via e-mail to present their proof for discount.

3.3 10x or 15x entry memberships

  • A 15x entry membership is valid for participating in a sport included in the passe-partout 15 times. This membership is valid for six months from the moment of purchase.
  • A 10x entry climbing membership is valid for accessing the climbing or bouldering facilities 10 times. This membership is valid for six months from the moment of purchase.
  • A 10x entry bouldering membership is valid for accessing the bouldering facilities 10 times. This membership is valid for six months from the moment of purchase.
  • To be eligible for category 1 or 2, a member must have a proof for discount on the date of purchase of the membership. Failure to present a proof for discount will result in discontinuation of the membership, unless the due amount corresponding to category 3 is paid. If the membership is discontinued, the participant will receive a refund, after deduction of the category 3 membership fee for the number of visits already used and administrative costs.

3.4 1x entry pass

  • A 1x entry pass gives one-time access to a sport included in the passe-partout. This pass is valid for one week from the moment of purchase.
  • A 1x entry climbing pass gives one-time access to the climbing or bouldering facilities. This pass is valid for one week from the moment of purchase.
  • A 1x entry bouldering pass gives one-time access to the bouldering facilities. This pass is valid for one week from the moment of purchase.

3.5 Trial membership

  • The trial membership can only be purchased at a USC front desk.
  • The trial membership is valid for one month from the moment of purchase.
  • This membership is valid for participating in a sport included in the passe-partout 3 times.
  • You may only purchase a trial membership if you have never been a member of USC before.
  • You may only purchase a trial membership if you have never used such a trial membership before.
  • You can divide the three trial classes over different USC locations. For example: 1x fitness at Universum, ClubWest, Amstelcampus or ASC, 1x (kick)boxing at USC School of Boxing and 1x yoga at USC Body & Mind.

3.6 Seasonal memberships

  • Some memberships at USC are on a seasonal basis. These memberships have a fixed start and end date.
  • Seasonal memberships must be paid for in advance at the moment of purchase.
  • To be eligible for category 1 or 2, a member must have a proof for discount on the date of purchase of the membership. Failure to present a proof for discount will result in discontinuation of the membership, unless the due amount corresponding to category 3 is paid. If the membership is discontinued, the participant will receive a refund, after deduction of the category 3 membership fee for the lapsed period and administrative costs.

3.7 Course memberships

  • In addition to the memberships mentioned under 3.1 to 3.6, USC also offers a large number of courses each year. These courses normally start five times a year (four regular course periods and a summer course). The courses usually consist of four, five or nine classes. Except for the intensive courses during the summer, classes are once a week for the duration of the course.
  • Courses must be paid for in advance at the moment of purchase.
  • USC reserves the right to cancel a course if the number of participants is such that it is required to do so.

4. No show fee system

If a member makes a reservation, but does not show up, USC will register a no show. The member will receive a no show warning through e-mail. When a member does not show up for another reservation within 3 months, a no show fee will follow. The member will be informed of this by e-mail. In that e-mail, the member will be given the option to either pay a no show fee of 3 euros, or not be able to make reservations for 2 weeks. If the member chooses to pay the no show fee, the member can make reservations again immediately after payment. If the no show fee is not paid, the member can make reservations again after 2 weeks.

5. Statutory reflection period

If a member invokes the statutory reflection period, the General Terms and Conditions of Delivery of NL Actief apply. With regard to the courses at USC, the following applies: if cancelled up to two weeks before the start of a course, the member will receive a full refund for the course. Cancellation can be done via e-mail: usc@uscsport.nl. The date of receipt of the notice of cancellation is decisive. In case of cancellation within two weeks before the start of the course, no refund will be provided.

6. Payment and refunds

  • When paying by credit card, the amount will be charged immediately at the time of the transaction.
  • Refunds are only provided if the amount to be refunded is €20,- or more.
  • There will be no refunds for events.

7. Age

You must be at least 16 years old to join the USC sports program.
