Meet Lion!

Lion’s passion for the martial art nunchaku is just as contagious as the flu this month. If you get a little too close to Lion, you will be in the dojo waving sticks around in no time 🥢. In this interview you will get to know Lion a bit better!

With all USC martial arts teachers you form the USC Avengers! What is your superpower?

“I have very fast reflexes! If something seems to be going wrong, I can often correct it just in time. Usually it concerns stuff that people accidentally drop, but I also had it with a car rolling away once! Because someone forgot the handbrake…” 🙄

Nunchaku is not the biggest sport in the Netherlands. How did the sport steal your heart?

“At first, I didn’t even know that USC existed, let alone what nunchaku was. I got to know USC after talking to a fellow student about krav maga (another USC martial art) during a lecture.”

“She told me about the enormous sports offer at USC and I started making a list of sports I didn’t know and wanted to try. After that, I saw a video about nunchaku and I thought: ‘This is not for ordinary people, this is for experts!’”

Which USC martial arts teacher would you like to fight an exciting duel against?

“That has to be Dominic! Dominic once trained me when he was still assisting Hannah, the former USC nunchaku teacher. And as a student, you have to surpass your master.”

“We have never battled each other on a tournament, so that would be the ultimate test for me. Dominic, I’m waiting for you…”

What do you think makes nunchaku such a fun sport for students to do?

“Normally, I get bored quite quickly, but what makes nunchaku so much fun for me is that it is fast and versatile. You can also see that in the goals of everybody who joins the training. Some members for example really specify on the fighting part of nunchaku, while others focus more on the technical aspect. And I personally like to become a very good allrounder.”

Do you want to give nunchaku a go? Every Tuesday (20:00) and Sunday (16:00), Lion is waiting for you in the dojo! Book a spot with your martial arts membership.
