Renovation update ClubWest

There’s a lot going on at ClubWest. In this update we’ll tell you all about it!

Background

USC, where ClubWest is being part of, receives a subsidy from the UvA and AUAS to allow students to work out cheaply. Research shows that a relatively large amount of AUAS subsidy goes to ClubWest. It has therefore been decided to stop renting half of the upper floor as of 1 January 2022. This makes a big difference in costs. What the AUAS will do with the space that has become available has not been announced yet. However, the changes will have significant consequences.

The sauna isn’t there anymore
Things moved quickly after the decision to stop renting the top floor. It became clear that we would no longer have a special Body & Mind studio, while we would very much like to keep those kinds of classes in the ClubWest sports program. Because studio 1 and 2 are not suitable for yoga and also fully booked with other classes, we looked for another solution to keep offering yoga. The only option was to sacrifice the sauna and turn it into a suitable studio. Not a popular decision for many, but for us sports has a small advantage compared to a visit to the sauna.

The physio practice will stay in the same place
Direct agreements were made between Fysiokliniek Amsterdam and the AUAS when half of the top floor was divested, so that the physio could stay in the same rooms. The kinesis room however, is no longer available to them. Therefore we’ll see the physios with their clients more often in the studios and in the fitness.

Renovation update

In the meantime, the renovation is in full swing and the potential of the old sauna area becomes more visible each day. It’s going to be a really cool space! Although this will take some time. We expect to have the new studio up and running somewhere in the summer of 2022.
